Hosted by Glengarry and Brian Roberts Agencies, the Kamberg Classic was once again an exhilarating day, and is fast becoming one of the top MTB races in KZN. This year there was an almost 20% increase in overall numbers in comparison to previous events. Here are some of the highlights of the day.
Andrew Reclaims His Title
After finishing in 2nd place in 2016 when Travis Walker took the lead, BRA was thrilled that Andrew Hill once again took the 65km title – and with a huge smile on his face as he crossed the finish line. The mountain biker took charge of the race from around the 12km mark and kept the pace high as he stayed ahead of his main competition, Brennan Anderson and Dean Wortman. “Andrew was just too fast today…”, said Brennan.
The Trail is Getting Bigger and Better
Organisers are realising that mountain bikers want more out of their weekend races, and they are meeting these demands. As the competition is getting tougher, the route is evolving and, according to Andrew Hill, this is thanks to people like Gareth Sivright who take pride in building the best possible courses. Andrew spoke about the first time he raced the Glengarry Classic on that trail in 2015 and said that it has vastly improved since then. He said, “…I’ll hopefully be back next year to defend my title and experience more Kamberg Valley hospitality”.
